At SP we like to our technicians to stay on top of all the new products that the roofing industry has to offer. This week all of the SP foreman team completed their monthly training. This month was with Firestone. Each month they complete a training program with a different roofing manufacturer.  Members of the SP foreman team include: Samuel Rosario, Kerrigan Brennan, Rodney Nance, Roberto Hurtado, Tim Sample, Brandon Howland, Jeff Janzen, Luis Galicia and Victor Hernandez. Summer Intern Program a Huge Success at SP

This summer, Springer-Peterson experimented by hiring five college students to work in our service, roofing and estimating departments.  The program was structured in a manner to provide safety and installation training prior to them getting onto a roof and additional training throughout the summer.  The training videos used were from the NRCA Roofing Alliance Library, as provided by our state roofing association, FRSA.

Once assigned with a service foreman or to a roofing crew, the students experienced first hand, the challenges of the trade.  Due to heat, height and extreme unpredictable weather conditions, they soon developed a better understanding and the relevance of the roofing industry to our customers and their businesses.

Most of the students worked six days a week throughout the summer and volunteered to be “on call” for late night emergencies and Sundays.  While all of our foremen were skeptical at first, most all agree that the students were hard working and reliable, and their contributions had a positive impact on our roofing and service departments.

One student was placed in our estimating department and received the same pre-employment training as the others prior to getting started.  Once becoming familiar with our Timberline estimating software, he was then assigned various projects to prepare quantity take offs for our other estimators to complete the actual estimate.  This student was also introduced to the other software used by our estimating department, including Aerialogics, Dataforma and Roof Express.

Overall, the entire experimental intern project was a huge success for our company and we are planning to expand the program in 2012, using the students’ ideas and recommendations to assist us in making future experiences even more beneficial to both the students and our company.

Roof Maintenance Awareness

In today’s economic environment, it has become more and more important for a roof’s maintenance program to extend the service life of a roof system. Regular maintenance allows a roof system to extend its depreciated service life. Every additional year of life that regular maintenance provides is an additional year that the owner does not have to expand a substantial expense for roof replacement. 

Springer-Peterson offers a proactive preventative maintenance program that provides detailed information to the building owners. Springer-Peterson provides the option of a preventative maintenance tool that allows you to prevent serious roof conditions in their early stages, thereby avoiding problems and pre-mature roof replacement. This also reduces costly and unbudgeted interior repairs due to leaks and other issues regular maintenance could have prevented. This service comes with an initial inspection to bring the roof to warranty standards, as well as semi-annual inspections thereafter.

We provide our clients with a web- based portal system that allows you to report leaks, track work orders, view invoices, and view repair pictures all in real time. All of these services enable our clients to have powerful management tools at their fingertips.

Springer-Peterson Team Completes its Monthly Manufacturer Training

This week all of the SP service team completed their monthly training. This month was with GAF. Each month they complete a training program with a different roofing manufacturer. They will be completeing the Sarnafil manufacturers training in August. Springer-Peterson Awarded Reroof by City of Lakeland

Springer-Peterson was awarded the Transmission and Distribution building reroof by the City of Lakeland. This building houses power poles and line crew trucks. We will be using Sarnafil PVC with a Sarnarail to imitate metal roof panels on the 232 square job. Jeff Janzen is the primary foreman for this job.

Springer-Peterson Completes Work On Winter Haven Hospital

Springer-Peterson is proud to announce the completion of the Winter Haven Hospital. This project was a total of 131 squares of  Firestone cold-applied 3-ply SBS system over light weight concrete decking. Jeff Janzen and Victor Hernandez were the main foreman on the job.

Member of Springer-Peterson's Team Graduates from Future Executives Institute

Greg Farris, the Vice President of Operations at Springer-Peterson, is now among the graduates of FEI  (Future Executives Institute). FEI is a three-year educational program designed to develop the management and leadership skills of future and current roofing company leaders. Greg was among one of thirty FEI graduates of the 2011 class.

Springer-Peterson Completes Publix Super Markets Data Center and HV Warehouse

Springer-Peterson has recently finished the Data Center and HV Warehouse at Publix Super Markets. Springer-Peterson chose a Sarnafil Single Ply P.V.C 60 mil G-410 adhered Roof System to cover the 415 squares of roof. To ensure quality protection, Jeff Janzen, Victor Hernandez, Matt Downs and John Hanson, along with all of their men worked 3 shifts, 24 hours, 7 days a week until completion. Here are a few photos of our finished product.

All of the Stuctural modifications to the pipe support systems were done in the field by Springer-Petersons Fabrication Shop who are AWS certified welders. Here is some of their completed work on the job.

For the HV Warehouse, Springer-Peterson also chose a Sarnafi Single Ply PVC 48 mil S-327 Rhino Bond System to cover the 1362 squares of roof.
